![]() ![]() The 4790K really doesn't deserve the privilege of a new CPU designation, it is, as I stated, just a 4770K with the artificial performance degradation built in by Intel removed. I bought this CPU because I replaced my motherboard about a year ago with one which is far superior and my friend now wants me to build a computer for him and he is getting my old motherboard and the 4770K for the price I paid for the 4790K. I know this, because I do have a 4770K which I have delidded and benchmarked and compared my modified 4770K with the benchmarks for the 4790K and they are nigh on identical. If one takes the lid off the 4770K, gets rid of all the gunk that Intel smeared on it, replaces the Thermal Interface Material with a good one, and then replaces the lid so that it is actually in proximity to the CPU then you get a processor which is indistinguishable to the 4790K in EVERY RESPECT. This leaves one and only one conclusion, Intel deliberately crippled the precursor to the 4790K namely the 4770K. ![]() ![]() The fact of the matter is that after all the decades of producing CPU's Intel makes n00bie mistakes with regard to them is not believable. To some of you the title of this review might appear a bit cryptic. ![]()
